Delhi: The Modi government government announced a cut in the excise duty on petrol and diesel. On the eve of Diwali, the government reduced the excise duty on petrol and diesel by Rs 5 and Rs 10, respectively, Assam, Goa, Tripura, Karnataka and several other states followed by reducing VAT on petrol and diesel.
Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma informed through a tweet saying, “Heartening to learn Central Govt decision to reduce excise duty on petrol and diesel. In consonance with the decision of Honble PM @narendramodi, I am pleased to announce that Assam Govt will also reduce VAT on petrol and diesel by Rs 7/- with immediate effect.”

Appreciating the move, Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan tweeted, “Welcome the Centre’s decision to reduce excise duty on petrol and diesel by ₹5 and ₹10 respectively from tomorrow. This is a responsible decision from the #ModiGovt to bring relief to consumers”.
“The decision of the Centre to reduce excise duty on petrol and diesel also sets the template for the state government to follow suit. Concrete action from state gov will lead to further reduction in fuel price and more relief to consumers,” Pradhan further said.
