NRL wins BEE CHT Award for Best Energy Efficiency practices

AZIR KHOBOR, GUWAHATI, 17TH JUNE, 2022 : NRL has been recognized with Certificate of Achievement and awarded for ‘Best Energy Efficiency Practices by Refinery’ for the PAT ( Perform Achieve Trade) Cycle II (2016-19) at the Energy Efficiency Award function held in Noida on 15-06-22.

Instituted collectively by Bureau of Energy Efficiency(BEE) under Ministry of Power (MOP), Govt of India and Centre for High Technology(CHT) under Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas, Govt. of India, the award recognizes Indian Refineries for their achievements in the field of Energy Efficiency.

The award was presented by Mr Sunil Kumar Joint Secretary Refineries MoPNG, Mr Abhay Bhakre -Director General, Bureau of Energy Efficiency in presence of ED CHT Mr Alok Sarma and Director -BEE Mr Milind Deore to NRL team comprising of Mr. Nikunja Borthakur, Sr.CGM(CA) and Ms. Geetali Kalita, CM(TS)-Energy.

One of the eight missions under NAPCC (National Action Plan on Climate Change). Govt of India is NMEEEE (National Mission on Enhanced Energy Efficiency). PAT ( Perform Achieve Trade) is a mechanism for energy intensive industries to improve energy efficiency and optimize energy consumption.

In PAT Cycle II (2016-2019, refineries have been included along with already existing 8 other energy intensive industries as per Energy conservation Act .

NRL surpassed the Specific Energy Consumption target bringing PAT down from baseline year (2014-15 ) MBN 71.39 to MBN 65.78 in FY 2018-19 against target of 67.03 given by MOP –BEE.

Specific Energy Consumption (SEC) is the measure of energy spent in refining every tonne of Crude Oil. SEC is very important as any energy saved contributes towards production of additional products for the refineries and in turn reduce crude oil import into the country as well reduces carbon footprint.
