Gandhi Jayanti: PM Modi pays tribute to Mahatma Gandhi
New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi today remembered ‘Father of the Nation’ Mahatma Gandhi on the occasion of his 154th birth anniversary.
PM Modi said Gandhi motivated “the entire humankind to further the spirit of unity and compassion.”
He posted on X, “I bow to Mahatma Gandhi on the special occasion of Gandhi Jayanti. His timeless teachings continue to illuminate our path. Mahatma Gandhi’s impact is global, motivating the entire humankind to further the spirit of unity and compassion. May we always work towards fulfilling his dreams. May his thoughts enable every youngster be the agent of change he dreamt of, fostering unity and harmony all over.”
Later, PM Modi paid tribute to Mahatma Gandhi at Rajghat in the national capital. Delhi LG VK Saxena, Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla, Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge and other leaders also arrived at the Rajghat to pay homage to Mahatma Gandhi.
On Sunday, PM Modi led the nation in ‘Swachhata Hi Seva Abhiyan’ as he joined the mega cleanliness drive ahead of the Mahatma Gandhi Jayanti. Modi was seen taking up a broom and cleaning the ground with wrestler turned social media influencer Ankit Baiyanpuriya.
Swachh Bharat Diwas or Swachhta Diwas is observed every year on October 2 on the occasion of Gandhi Jayanti. During this drive, politicians and citizens alike perform tasks ranging from sweeping to garbage collection as part of the nationwide cleanliness drive.
October 2 also marks the birth anniversary of Lal Bahadur Shastri, the second Prime Minister of India. PM Modi recalled his “unwavering commitment to India’s progress” and said his “iconic call for ‘Jai Jawan, Jai Kisan’ resonate even today.”
