Women World Boxing Championship Highlights: India Wins 4 Gold Medals at IBA Women’s World Boxing Championship

On Sunday, Nikhat Zareen and Lovlina Borgohain won gold medals in their respective weight categories

Lovlina has added a fourth gold medal to India’s tally in the 2023 IBA Women’s World Boxing Championship after clinching gold at the Indira Gandhi Arena in Delhi.She defeated Australian boxer Caitlin Parker to take the top prize in the 75 kg category and win her first-ever World Championship gold medal.

Lovlina had won the bronze medal in the Tokyo Olympics. She is only one of two Indian women to win an Olympic medal in boxing. Mary Kom had won a record six gold medals in the history of the World Championships. Nikhat Zareen is the only other Indian to win multiple World Championship medals.

Lovlina has joined Mary Kom (2002, 2005, 2006, 2008, 2010, and 2018), Sarita Devi (2006), Jenny RL (2006), Lekha KC (2006), Nikhat Zareen (2022, 2023), Saweeta Boora (2023), and Nitu Ghanghas (2023) in the list of elite women to win 7 Women’s World Boxing Championship medals.
