Total lockdown might re-impose if the general public fails to follow the COVID-19 protocols said by Sarma

Guwahati, August 28: Chief Minister of Assam DR.Himanta Biswa Sarma announced that the state government might re-impose total lockdown if the general people’s don’t follow COVID-19 protocols. He also shared that the government is planning to open up public spaces from the first week of September if the circumtances improve further.

While addressing the public in a recent function, Himanta Biswa Sarma said, “From the first week of September we will try to open up more. The number of COVID19 cases has come down below 500 yesterday. So, we will open schools, colleges and buses; but if people don’t follow the COVID19 protocols, we might have to go back to the state of total lockdown. As we relax the restrictions, I request everyone to follow the rules and regulations.”

In regard to the ongoing vaccine drive and the availability of vaccines in Assam, the Assam CM stressed on the importance of vaccines to control the COVID-19 situation in the state.

He added,” After the recent visit of Union Minister for Health Mansukh Mandaviya the availability of vaccine has gone up. We have been able to vaccinate around 50 lakh people this month itself. I am certain we will be able to provide another 50 lakh in the coming month. For this month, we have already provided 61 lakh vaccines and we still have a few days left. I request the people of Assam to come forward and take the second dose of the COVID19 vaccine. We are not safe until we take the second dose. All steps have been taken to ensure that everyone gets the vaccine.”
