TOKYO OLYMPICS 2020: TOP MEDALS TALLY COUNTRIES LIST INCLUDING INDIA
India is sending its largest ever contingent to the Tokyo Olympics in the hope of bettering its medals haul over previous Games.
TOKYO,july 26: The 2020 Tokyo Olympics are here, Events are underway. In total, 339 medals will be awarded across 33 sports.The record for the most gold medals won at a single Olympics is 83, which the United States achieved at the 1984 Summer Games.The USA has dislodged China from the perch with strong show in shooting and swimming, one of its pet events, in the medal tally as off 3:00 PM IST.
USA now has 7 gold, three silver and four bronze medals. China is in second with six gold, three silver and six bronze. Hosts Japan are third with six gold, one silver and two bronze medals.
Britain and Korea are fourth and fifth respectively, followed by Australia in the sixth spot.
India are perched at 28th but there is some silver lining as weightlifter Saikhom Mirabai Chanu may well end up winning the gold medal in the women’s 49kg category at Tokyo Olympic Games. According to reports, Zhihui Hou, the Chinese lifter, who bagged gold in the Games on Saturday, will be tested by anti-doping authorities
Medal tally counts gold medals for rankings and not the number of medals.
